SCART – The Problem
The standard SCART (21 pin AV connector) cable can cause
loss of picture or sound if the plug had been lifted out of its socket by just
over 3 degrees. This usually happens when the device the cable is connected to is moved for cleaning. Upon quick inspection by the end user, it appeared that the SCART plug and cable were still connected in its normal way but would actually have been moved slightly, so much that the eye cannot see the difference. The result of misdiagnosing the problem is unnecessary customer service calls and interruption to the customer’s enjoyment of services.
The Solution - Secure SCART Cables
Developed with the assistance of B Sky B and approved to work on their products this is the long awaited solution to loose or intermittent SCART connection. The purpose of the modified shroud is that it makes a more secure connection due to the four sprung latches in the metal shroud, increasing the force required to remove the SCART plug from the socket.
There is a wide range of sockets in use, due to the differing tolerances, it has been determined that the pull force required to extract the plug can vary from 14.4 Kg to 19.9 Kg depending on the manufacturer of the socket. The Secure SCART is deemed to be a compromise between the tightest and slackest sockets tested.
Particular attention has been taken over the attachment of the shroud to the plug, body hood. If the shroud is not securely attached it will remain in the socket after the plug has been removed. The Secure SCART overcomes this by the use of 5 lugs in the hood that pass through the shroud into the plug body.
Additional benefit
Unlike most SCART cables sold so far, the Secure SCART is also manufactured with flame retardant cable. This is a significant improvement for home safety.
